SWOT Analysis

When revising for an exam or planning for any activity it is good to make a plan.

Business, Sport or leisure all can benefit from the technique of SWOT analysis.
This means taking a look at your strengths and weaknesses before you make your plan of action.
The idea behind this is to play to your strengths and address your weaknesses. You can then take full advantage of any opportunities and tackle any threats there may be.

S - trengths
W - eaknesses
O - pportunities
T -hreats

Here is an example

Strengths
I can say that I revise every day. I make diagrams which help me to visualise what I must remember. Because I write every day I am quick at reading and writing. I am well organised e.g. different coloured files

Weaknesses
Even though my system is good, sometimes I do not have enough time to file everything in the right place

Opportunities
The results of the exam will affect my credits and my credits may help me to go to the Uni I choose
Threats
All being well, I should be fit and ready to take the exam.
In the last exam there was not enough time to finish all the questions for me and other students
+ -
From this I can say that my action plan is as follows:

  • Make use of my strengths as an organiser and quick reader and writer
  • Make a point of reviewing my filing system and techniques after the exam
  • Bear in mind that the exam counts for 40 per cent of my total marks and credits
  • Do practice exams and time myself several times to speed up my ability to respond accurately, carefully yet not run out of time
